Pasta

Idea: Pasta is one of those many products created before the concept Food Design was formed, therefore it is one of those products whithout a designer's name associated.

Pasta can be classified in relationship to its length: it can be long, short or extra short for soups. A second classification of pasta can be made in relationship to the best sauce to be used. Usually thinner pasta, such as spaghetti, is eaten with more liquid sauces, while thicker pasta, like fusilli and pappardelle, is more suitable for thicker sauces. Pasta with holes, or with concave shapes, are perfect for chunky sauces, and when it is ribbed it absorbs the sauce instead of simply being enveloped in it.

Pasta is a perfect example of food whose shapes follow the function.
